Vacancy: Policy Adviser – Compliance, Tax & AML
The European Banking Federation (EBF) works at the heart of the European banking sector. Our daily activities are determined by the dynamics between European integration, finance, public policy and financial regulation. EBF brings together 33 national banking associations in Europe and represent some 3,500 banks – large and small, wholesale and retail, local and international.
We create a platform for representation and for a constructive exchange of ideas and expertise between banks, regulators, supervisors and other entities that drive the innovation and sustainability of the banking sector. The Position
The EBF is seeking to recruit a full-time Policy Adviser who, as a member of the Compliance, Tax & AML Team, will be instrumental in designing and delivering the EBF advocacy on anti-money laundering, tax matters and financial sanctions.
Detailed responsibilities
- Actively participate in the EBF position-building and advocacy on AML, tax matters and financial sanctions;
- Support and/or coordinate the work of the relevant EBF Strategy and Expert Groups (including Financial Crime Strategy Group, AML Expert Group, Fiscal Committee and Financial Sanctions Expert Group);
- Monitor and anticipate regulatory developments in the field of AML, taxation and financial sanctions;
- Draft and deliver position papers and consultation responses on relevant legislation and regulation;
- Support the communication of EBF’s messages in the anti-financial crime and tax areas;
- Actively engage with key stakeholders in the area of AML, tax and financial sanctions (EU institutions and agencies, particularly the European Commission, the Council, the European Parliament, the AML Authority and Europol, as well as International Organisations such as the FATF, the OECD, key fora and other industry bodies).
Successful candidates fit for the following profile
- University degree in economy/law/politics
- Specialised degree, certification or specific experience in anti-financial crime and/or taxation are an asset;
- At least one year of relevant working experience, within an EU institution or the national public sector (e.g. tax administration, supervisory authority or Financial Intelligence Unit), a Financial Institution, or a consulting or legal firm;
- Excellent command of English;
The ideal candidate will have:
- Excellent knowledge of the EU decision making process and thorough understanding of EU public affairs;
- Effective communication and team working skills; Excellent influencing skills, persuasiveness and sense of diplomacy;
- Excellent organisational skills and capacity to prepare large meetings, setting out agendas and overseeing the administrative work, discussing with experts about relevant content, and following up with concise minutes and actions; Ability to blend the views and inputs provided by members of a group and to draft submissions, position papers and articles;
- Strategic and analytical thinking skills in a project-driven environment; Capacity to adopt pragmatic viewpoints including on the implementation of regulation in credit institutions across EU Member States;
- Openness to assume responsibilities on a variety of technical matters;
- Good interpersonal and bridge builder skills and ability to work under pressure; Ability to show considerable commitment to his/her work, enthusiasm and a positive attitude towards the various projects for which he/she will be responsible
Internal Career Development
At EBF, we take the professional and personal development of Policy advisers and all other staff members very seriously. As part of that development, policy advisers may be asked to move to different files after 1-2 years of employment and will be asked to assume project roles and activities in addition to their assigned policy area.
